On Thursday, July 9, 2026, the African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) M-CARE project team convened a stakeholder engagement meeting in Murang’a Town to strengthen collaboration with county health leaders on integrated care for non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and mental health at the primary care settings. The meeting brought together 26 participants, drawn from the Murang’a County Government, Murang’a County Health Management Team (CHMT), nine Sub-County Health Management Teams (SCHMTs), and APHRC.
Dr. James Mburu, the Director of Health at the Murang’a County Government, officiated the meeting. Dr. Juliana Mbuthia, the designated Co-Investigator for the M-CARE Project on behalf of the Murang’a County Government, was also in attendance.
The meeting’s objectives were to:
- Reintroduce the M-CARE project to county stakeholders
- Present an overview of the health facility assessment conducted in Murang’a County.
- Share preliminary findings from the facility assessment
- Run a stakeholder mapping exercise to identify key actors and collaboration opportunities for strengthening integrated NCD and mental health care in Murang’a
The session closed with a joint stakeholder mapping exercise, giving county and APHRC teams a shared starting point for the collaboration ahead.
