The M-CARE General Assembly Meeting was held in Lira District, Uganda, bringing together consortium partners from Ghana, Kenya, Uganda, Denmark and the Netherlands. The meeting provided an important opportunity to review project progress, discuss implementation challenges, share country experiences and identify practical solutions to strengthen the effective and high-quality implementation of the M-CARE project.
A key highlight of the visit was the strong engagement and support from the Ministry of Health. The consortium had the opportunity to meet with the Minister of Health and Ministry representatives to discuss the M-CARE project, its objectives and its contribution to strengthening integrated care. This engagement was particularly valuable in ensuring that the project remains aligned with national health priorities and has the potential for sustainable implementation and future scale-up.
As part of the General Assembly, consortium members also visited two primary healthcare facilities: Aboke HCIV in a rural setting and Ober HCIV in an urban setting. These visits provided valuable firsthand insights into Uganda’s healthcare context, the realities of service delivery, and opportunities to strengthen the integration of care for chronic conditions and mental health within primary healthcare.
The M-CARE Project is funded by the European Union through the Horizon Europe programme and is implemented by a multidisciplinary consortium including Amsterdam UMC, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, the University of Copenhagen, the London School of Economics and Political Science, the University of Ghana, the African Population and Health Research Center, and Lira University.
We extend our sincere appreciation to all consortium partners, country teams, government stakeholders and health facility staff for their continued commitment, collaboration and shared vision for strengthening integrated care for chronic conditions and mental health in Africa.
A special thank you to our colleagues from the University of Ghana, Amsterdam UMC, APHRC and Lira University, whose contributions continue to move the M-CARE project forward.
We look forward to building on the discussions, partnerships and lessons from the General Assembly as implementation progresses across participating countries.
