On 28th April 2026, the M-CARE Project team held its maiden Steering Committee Meeting, bringing together key stakeholders from government, academia, research institutions, and implementing partners to provide strategic guidance for the successful implementation of the project.
The meeting was chaired by Dr. Hafez Adam Taher, Director of Technical Coordination at the Ministry of Health, with Dr. Caroline Amissah, Deputy Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, serving as Co-Chairperson.
The Steering Committee membership comprised distinguished representatives including Prof. Charles Agyemang, Prof. Ama de-Graft Aikins, Prof. Alfred Doku, Prof. Alfred Edwin Yawson, Dr. Eugene K. Dordoye, Dr. Kwaku Poku Asante, and other representatives from the National Health Insurance Authority, Ghana NCDs Alliance, and the University of Ghana.
The agenda covered welcome remarks, introduction of Steering Committee members and leadership, an address by the Project Lead, and a comprehensive overview of the M-CARE Project. Discussions highlighted the project’s objectives, work packages, activities undertaken so far, and implementation plans for 2026.
During deliberations, members carefully reviewed the Terms of Reference for the Governance Committee and proposed several revisions to strengthen oversight, coordination, and accountability structures.
A major action point agreed upon was the need to secure ethics approval from Kintampo Health Research Centre before commencement of the ground-truthing exercise, considering project timelines and upcoming implementation phases. In parallel, the Committee advised that other pending activities should proceed, including stakeholder engagement processes and procurement of essential equipment to ensure timely project rollout.
The meeting concluded with an agreement that the Steering Committee will meet four times each year twice virtually and twice in person to provide quarterly oversight and strategic direction for the project.
