
Dr. Peter Otieno

Dr. Peter Otieno is a researcher in the Chronic Disease Management Unit at the African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) and leads the Multimorbidity Synergy Research Group at APHRC. He serves as a co-investigator on the M-CARE project. His work focuses on the integrated management of chronic conditions, including strengthening health system responses to address the growing burden of chronic diseases in low-resource settings.
Dr. Otieno holds a PhD in Multimorbidity of Cardiometabolic Diseases from Amsterdam University Medical Centre, University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands, and is a 2024 Bernard Lown Scholar in Cardiovascular Health at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, Harvard University. His research aims to generate locally relevant evidence to inform national health policy and advocate for greater investment in primary care as a pathway to advancing health equity.
Dr. Otieno works closely with African governments to provide scientific support for the design and implementation of national policies on chronic disease prevention and management. His research particularly emphasizes the needs of underserved urban populations, where poverty, marginalization, and limited access to care contribute significantly to the burden of multimorbidity
