Marilyn M. Azumah

Marilyn M. Azumah, MPH, BSN, RN, is a nurse leader, innovator, health advocate, and educator with over a decade of clinical experience in healthcare. She leads the Female High Dependency Unit at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and serves as an Adjunct Lecturer in the Department of Nursing and Midwifery at Christian Service University, Ghana. Marilyn is also a PhD candidate at Amsterdam University Medical Center.

She is deeply committed to improving heart health and has strong interests in cardiovascular healthcare service delivery, preventive care, supportive self-care management, advocacy, research, and nursing and midwifery education. With a dynamic and responsible team of experts, she plays a major role in fundraising, renovation, refurbishment, and maintenance activities under the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Heal Komfo Anokye Project.

Marilyn is the Co-lead for the Ghanaian Diaspora Nursing Alliance, Middle Zone. Through her passion for promoting good health and wellbeing, she also leads the planning, organization, and coordination of health activities at Spot Stroke Fast Foundation. She is passionate about transforming the healthcare system and strengthening the leadership capacity of healthcare professionals.

With her outstanding track record of leadership and innovation, Marilyn was selected in 2022 for the Mandela Washington Fellowship under the Young African Leaders Initiative by the U.S. Department of State. She holds a certificate in Leadership in Public Management from the University of California, Davis. She has also served as the Projects and Programmes Coordinator for the Mandela Washington Fellows Association of Ghana and is a member of the Ghanaian Society of Cardiology.

In 2023, she received a Presidential Honour for distinguished service, leadership, passion, commitment, and sacrifice during the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2025, she was named Best Senior Nurse for the Medicine Directorate at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital. In 2026, she received the Healthcare Heroes Award for her commitment to building sustainable local-global collaboration between Ghanaian nurses in Ghana and the diaspora to advance nursing education and improve health outcomes in Ghana.

Beyond her professional work, Marilyn is family-oriented and a devoted Christian. She enjoys reading, travelling, hiking, sightseeing, and giving back to society through volunteerism. She is also passionate about building meaningful collaborations and networks that contribute to personal, professional, and societal growth.
