The M-CARE project is tackling the growing burden of multiple long-term chronic conditions (MLTC-NCDs) and common mental health disorders in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). Focusing on Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, and Uganda, M-CARE aims to strengthen primary health care by integrating two key WHO strategies – PEN (Package of Essential NCD Interventions) and mhGAP (Mental Health Gap Action Programme). These evidence-based models support early detection and treatment of conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, and depression.
Through innovative, multi-sectoral approaches and the use of social media, M-CARE seeks to improve patient retention and management in under-resourced settings. The project anticipates a 35% increase in patients receiving care within a year, contributing to global targets for reducing premature deaths from NCDs by 2030.
