Assoc. Prof. Akello Judith Abal is a Ugandan academic and researcher currently serving as the Dean of the Faculty of Management Sciences at Lira University, Northern Uganda. With over three decades of experience in teaching and research, she is committed to socio-economic development, women’s empowerment, and public health promotion.
She holds a PhD from Makerere University (2020) and Post-Doctoral Research from Dresden University of Technology, Germany (2021), both funded by DAAD scholarships. Her research focuses on unlocking the potential of Functional Adult Literacy (FAL) programmes in Northern Uganda to promote women’s economic empowerment and public health awareness.
She has extensively worked on integrating adult education into maternal and child health interventions, aligning with M-CARE’s mission to improve rural healthcare access. Assoc. Prof. Akello played a key role in the Erasmus AHEAD Innovations Project (2017-2021), developing Open Education Resources (OERs) for inclusive innovation and grassroots entrepreneurship.
She has supervised numerous Master’s research projects and lectures on Gender Perspectives in Business, Public Finance, and Health Planning & Management. Beyond academia, she actively engages in community outreaches and policy advocacy. She serves on several boards, including CARITAS Lira Diocese and the Research Ethics Committee at Lira University, contributing to initiatives that enhance maternal and child health services.
A reviewer for the Journal of Research in Innovative Teaching & Learning, she has presented at international conferences, including eLearning Africa. Her leadership and dedication to inclusive development have earned her recognition as a visiting scholar at Technische Universität Dresden and a Leadership Award from Makerere University.
